Launching first new container shipping route at Nghi Son – Thanh Hoa

In the morning of October 08^th, 2017, at Terminal 1 - Nghi Son Port (Nghi Son Commune, Tinh Gia District, Thanh Hoa Province), PTSC Port Joint Stock Company (PTSC Thanh Hoa) coordinated with Global Logistics Service Co., Ltd (GLS Shipping) in holding the launching ceremony of the inland container transportation route from Nghi Son Port to Ben Nghe Port in Ho Chi Minh City and welcomed to the first container ship that anchored at Nghi Son port.

As a member of Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation, directly under Vietnam Oil and Gas Group. In recent years, PTSC Thanh Hoa has been known as a reputable and qualified provider of seaport as well as logistics and mechanics services at Nghi Son Economic Zone. PTSC Thanh Hoa is not only well-known in the North Central Coast but also throughout the country.

At present, PTSC Thanh Hoa is rapidly and sustainably developing with the focus on port - based services, logistics services, petroleum engineering and ship services. In which, port- based service plays a major role. PTSC Thanh Hoa owns and uses directly Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 that have a favorable position at Nghi Son area. Terminal 1 which has a length of 165 meters, the water depth in front of the berth is -9.5 meters, can receive ships up to 30,000 DWT offload. Terminal 2 which has a length of 225 meters and the water depth in front of the berth is -12 meters, enable to accommodate ships up to 70,000 DWT. Annually, the total volume of cargo handled and unloaded through Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 reaches an average of over 3 million tons/year.

Container transportation route in Nghi Son is formed by cooperation between PTSC Thanh Hoa and Global Logistics Service Company - GLS Shipping. At first, GLS Shipping shall use ATLANTIC OCEAN vessel with overall length of 113 meters and a total load of 6,866 DWT and capacity 404 TEUs / trip to transport Hai Phong - Nghi Son - Cua Lo - Ben Nghe route and Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong route with the frequency of one time per week. The first vessel will drop by in the morning of October 08, 2017.

According to the plan, PTSC Thanh Hoa shall work closely with GLS Shipping to do market survey and look for new customers in order to ensure the stability of the container shipping route through Nghi Son Port and develop continuously. In 2018, PTSC Thanh Hoa is going to increase the frequency of domestic container transportation to 2-3 times per week and cooperate with international shipping lines to develop container transportation services in Nghi Son port.

According to Mr. Pham Hung Phuong – Director of PTSC Thanh Hoa, in preparation for the opening of the domestic container transportation route, PTSC Thanh Hoa and GLS Shipping have spent more than one year to do market and customer research and be well – prepared for transportation facilities and infrastructure. In the next time, PTSC Thanh Hoa will continue to invest in constructing and expanding 200 meters of Terminal 2 with the total investment of about VND 250 billion, which can receive general cargo ships with a load up to 70,000DWT and container ships with a capacity of 4,000 TEUs. At the same time, PTSC Thanh Hoa will buy two more gantry crane with lifting capacity ≥ 40 tons and upgrade the fleet of trailers to dominate the market of general cargo ships over 50,000 DWT and meet the needs of transportation, loading, unloading container in Nghi Son area.

Representatives of PTSC Thanh Hoa, GLS, VCCI Thanh Hoa and representatives of government put hands on the globe to carry out signaling ceremony to launch the container shipping route Nghi Son - Thanh Hoa.

The launch of the container shipping route in Nghi Son plays a significant role in the development of the North Central Coast in general and Nghi Son economic zone in particular. This is a special event marking the launch of container handling, forwarding and container transportation service in Nghi Son area; matching with the Seaport Development Plan up to 2025 approved by the Government; creating a motivation for Nghi Son area to become a center of developing logistics services in the North Central Coast; contributing to the overall GDP growth of the region as well as supporting industries, goods and services of Thanh Hoa province, Northern Nghe An province and vicinities.
