On February 24th, Prime Minister Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Long Son Petrochemicals Complex Project (LSP) in Long Son Commune, Vung Tau City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

Long Son Petrochemicals Complex Project was invested by Long Son Refinery and Petrochemical Co., Ltd (a joint venture between SCG Corporation of Thailand and Vietnam Oil and Gas Group - PVN) on an area of 464ha and 194ha of water surface for seaport, with a total investment capital of $3.77 billion and expected to increase its investment capital up to $5.4 billion.
This is the first fully integrated petrochemical complex project in Vietnam with a capacity of 1.6 million tons of Olefin per year and is designed to produce a wide range of petrochemical products, including materials needed for plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene and other products with a capacity of more than 2 million tons per year. These products can replace the current imported polyolefins.
The construction period is 5 years, expected to be completed and put into operation in 2022. The project will create jobs for about 20,000 workers in the construction progress.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc joyfully said that this large-scale project is good news for the refinery and petrochemical industry in Vietnam. He also emphasized that Ba Ria - Vung Tau is a locality that gathers all the conditions of geographical location to deploy large-scale projects on petrochemical and petroleum processing. In addition, the implementation of the project is also concretizing the policy of Politburo and Central Executive Committee with Resolution No. 41 of Politburo in 2015 on the strategic development orientation of Vietnam's oil and gas industry to 2025 and oriented vision to 2035, thereby promoting the domestic and exported petrochemical refinery industry.
On behalf of the Government, Prime Minister praised SCG Corporation and Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), Long Son Refinery and Petrochemical Co., Ltd with the support of the Government and local authorities experienced challenges to held this groundbreaking ceremony.

Prime Minister highly appreciated Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, Vung Tau City, Long Son Commune and especially the local people who supported the policy of relocation from the project area for the project.
He also emphasized that this is only the first phase of the project and requested the investor to ensure timely progress in the coming time, apply modern technological progress in the project construction and installation for safe operation when inaugurated. Prime Minister asked the project owner and contractor to comply the regulations on protection of the natural and social environment, along with preserving the traditional culture of local people and restoring natural forests in the region for sustainable development.
This is a large-scale project with many workers involved in the construction site, investors, contractors and the province must strictly observe the regulations on labor safety, ensure health and life of workers. Leaders of Vung Tau City, Long Son Commune and investors committed to long-term resettlement and vocational training for local people. Local people are also responsible for creating conditions for the project during the construction progress.
Emphasizing the motto "the success of the project is our success", the Prime Minister directed the ministries, authorities and Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to create all favorable conditions for successful project implementation. Apart from economic significance, the project also has great political implications because Vietnam and Thailand are strategic partners with friendly and close ties.
