Petrovietnam and Semco Maritime (Denmark) cooperate for upgrading and troubleshooting offshore oil rig

In the morning of November 8th, in Hanoi, under the witness of Helle Thorning Schmidt, Danish Prime Minister and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and other officials from both Governments, “Agreement signing ceremony on upgrading and repairing the offshore oil rig” is launched between Semco Maritime (Denmark) and two members of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam): Petrovietnam Marine Shipyard (PV Shipyard) and PVD Tech - a member of PV Drilling

With the intensive capability of equipment supply, upgrading, repairing drilling rig by Semco Maritime, PV Shipyard’s fabrication and troubleshooting experience and professional in equipment supply, equipment unit fabrication for oil rig by PVD Tech, this Joint venture will open up opportunities to increase revenues and bring more jobs thanks to the oil rig of reputed contractors such as Seadrill, Ensco, Transocean,…repaired in Vietnam, which, in the past, only is performed abroad.

After the signing ceremony at the government office, Leaders of Semco Maritime and Petrovietnam had the press conference at Melia hotel to offer more information.

Addressing at the press conference, Mr Hans Peter Jorgensen, Vice President of Semco Maritime said: "This agreement is a very important breakthrough for Semco Maritime. Drilling rig project market in Southeast Asia is a strategic target in period of the past 3 - 4 years, we have set up the production facilities in Vietnam. Now, we bring our ability and the experience gained from the international oil rig projects to develop this market ".

Semco Maritime will attract the international investors in drilling rig field with total amount from 2 - 20 million USD to Vietnam.

Besides, Vung Tau port could be a Center for upgrading and repairs offshore drilling rig for oil and gas industry in Southeast Asia. All Parties believe that this cooperation will not only obtain high business performance; consistent with the policy of the Government, Petrovietnam's orientation on the localization and development of sole mechanical industry, but also contribute to tighten solidarity, long-term friendship between Vietnam and the Kingdom of Denmark.

This agreement is becoming one of the important factors contributing to the ongoing growth of Oil and Gas Industry in Vietnam generally and specific services supply in particular.
