Effective and sustainable exploitation of the oil and gas resources in Viet Nam

The scientific conference organized by the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) was held on 22-5-2018 with the theme “Effective and sustainable exploitation of the oil and gas resources in Viet Nam”.

At the conference, the speakers focused on issues related to VPI's long-term scientific research program: Improving the efficiency of oil exploration and exploration in the context of low oil prices; stepping up the application of oil recovery measures (IOR / EOR) in Vietnam; processing and producing gas with high CO2 content; Risk management in the fluctuating oil environment. From there to propose specific solutions for research and development, apply new technologies, improve management and management efficiency for Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam).

At the conference, experts focused on discussing and analyzing the challenges of the oil and gas sector, especially the upstream phase. They also forecasted the energy price trend until 2040, and proposed the solutions to help oil companies in reducing costs and competing better in low oil prices. Petrovietnam also presented the orientation for scientific research and technological development to successfully implement the Development Strategy until 2025 with orientation to 2035.

Presentations in the Oil and Gas Exploration and Search Sub-Division "Enhancing the efficiency of oil and gas exploration and exploitation in the context of low oil prices" have synthesized the data, analyzed the opportunities and directed the search of oil and gas exploration in the coming time. They also demonstrated the basic research results in geological, geophysical, geochemistry, etc as well as applying new technologies to serve and improve the efficiency of oil and gas exploration and production.

The group of "Strengthening the application of IOR / EOR in Vietnam" focused on technological solutions in order to limit the decline in output and improve the efficiency of exploiting and increasing the oil recovery coefficient for mines in Vietnam.

The group of "Processing and producing high-CO2 gas in Vietnam" discussed issues related to science and technology relating to the processing and producing of rich carbondioxyde natural gas.

The group of "Risk Management in the Fluctuating Environment of Petroleum" has discussed the advanced models, approaches and technologies in risk management in the world; identifying the current risks, development trends as well as potential future risks to Petrovietnam's production and business activities. They proposed measures to prevent and mitigate the extreme impacts of the risk.
